A singer and composer of Circassian descent, her father is Turkish and her mother is Syrian, and she holds both Lebanese and Jordanian nationalities. She was born as Amal Ismail Gerakas on 1 June 1937 in Beirut. She lived in Egypt for 40 years. However, her career started in Lebanon, especially after she was married at the age of 17 to the Lebanese-Palestinian singer Jamal Al-Din Mohamed Tuffaha. She appeared in 5 series including The Barber and the Treasure, Marital Diaries and in several Lebanese, Syrian, and Turkish films in the 1960s. She only appeared in 3 Egyptian films.
