An Italian poet, writer and screenwriter, born in Santarcangelo di Romagna, Italy. He wrote over 100 screenplays and was nominated for an Academy Award three times for Casanova 70 (1965), Blow-Up (1966) and Amarcord (1973). In 1995, he won an Honorary Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival for his contribution to cinema. He also received an honorary doctorate from Bordeaux Montaigne University in France.
