American writer and director who was born March 16, 1908 in New York. He moved to Hollywood in 1937 and practiced all professions in the studio for fifteen years before he presented his first film. He is known for The Hustler (1961), All the King's Men (1949) and Lilith (1964). He died on February 18, 1966 in New York City.
