An American actor, born as Hugh Milburn Stone in Burrton, Kansas, USA, on July 5, 1904. He was married three times and had one child. Among his notable works are Gunsmoke (1955-1975), Mystery Plane (1939), The Gamblers (1949) and Sky Patrol (1939). He graduated from Burrton High School, where he was active in the drama club and played basketball. He also worked in vaudeville, then had a minor appearance on Broadway, then moved to Los Angeles to try his luck in cinema. He played uncredited roles such as clerks, reporters and sailors, then moved on to bigger supporting roles. He received an honorary doctorate upon his retirement in 1975 from St. Mary of the Plains College, Kansas. He died of a heart attack in La Jolla, San Diego, California, USA, on June 12, 1980, at age 75.
