"Child's Pose" and "The Wind Rises" Screening Today at Toronto

Today at Toronto Film Festival the Romanian movie “ Child's Pose” is being screened under the Contemporary World Cinema section.

Calin Peter Netzer's third feature has won him the Golden Bear in Berlin Film Festival this year. The movie is about a mother in her sixties whose only child is involved in a hit and run car accident. The wealthy mother uses her connections to get her son out of trouble. The movie examines complex moral questions and power dynamics in the details of everyday life.

Also screening at the festival today is Hayao Miyazaki's “Kaze Tachinu” (The Wind Rises) in the Special Presentations section. The film, a fictionalized biography of Jiro Horikoshi who designed Japanese fighter planes in World War II, was screened in Venice Film Festival as part of the official contest. Miyazaki declared his retirement during the Venice Film Festival.
