Hassan is a young man from Upper Egypt from a poor family. As his circumstances become difficult after the death of his father, he begins stealing to support his mother and siblings.

The Al Wazzan family takes over the mayoral after the Abu Shahba family, so Kharabah, the bandits’ leader, kills the mayor, while Hassan travels to Cairo and meets Al Shandawili, whom he asks to find him work.

Hassan takes up work transporting stones in the quarry, and rents a room in Cairo, while Hennah settles in Al Ghannam's villa after her father was killed. Hassan then moves to work in a fish shop.

Hassan starts selling fish on his own, after which he meets his neighbor Naima and falls in love with her.

Kharabah becomes the mayor, and asks Halil to help him with the affairs of the town. Shandawili lends Hassan money to open his own small cafe, where he allows gambling.

The police arrest Hassan for allowing gambling in the cafe, and he is later released. He then returns to Asyut, after which Kharabah asks him for Saadia's hand in marriage.

Hassan agrees to the marriage of Kharabah and Saadia, and the latter agrees to marry him despite her love for Halil. Hennah asks Hassan to marry her so that she would leave Al Ghannam's house.

Hassan agrees with Al Zanati to rob Al Ghannam's villa, and they beat Wael for trying to assault Hennah. He also agrees to Hindiyah's marriage to Youssef.

Hindiyah marries Youssef, and Saadia marries Kharabah, and she goes with him to live in the mountains. Hassan makes Hennah stay with Kamla and returns to Cairo.

Hassan stays at Hendi's house, and Saadia learns archery and horsemanship, while Hassan starts working serving tea and coffee at the Huckstep.

Hassan meets Sergeant Qarqousha at the Huckstep, after which they steal weapons and smuggle them out of the camp, and Shandawili helps them sell them.

Hassan, in cooperation with Barbash and his friends, kills the guard at the Huckstep and steals the building materials. Hassan meets Sheikh Nour, who is selling ammunition and smuggled building materials.

Hassan is arrested on charges of possessing ammunition and guns, and is imprisoned until the investigation is completed.

Saadia begins to learn the sciences of jurisprudence and magic, and Kharabah discovers Zanati’s robbery of Al Ghannam's villa, so his men arrest him, and he dies during his trial in the mountain.

Barbash renews the Journalists Syndicate's subscription and leases a newspaper license for himself, while Hassan's detention period is renewed.

Hassan meets a lawyer in prison who helps him, and he gets released, after which he goes to his friend Mimi.

Kharabah summons Kamla, and Saadia gives her the stolen items from Al Ghannam's villa, so she plants them in Wael’s room, while Kharabah’s men catch two officers, and Kharabah releases them after informing them of Hennah's innocence and Wael’s robbery of his father.

The police arrest Wael after seizing the stolen items in his room. Barbash opens the newspaper, while Hassan begins working with Sheikh Nour, and discovers by chance his work in the antiquities trade.

Hassan steals the statues from Sheikh Nour and flees to his home in Upper Egypt, while the mayor refuses the commandant's request to entrap Kharabah to arrest him, and Hennah stays in the mountain, fearing Wael.

Hassan hides the antiquities in his house in Asyut with the help of Halil, and tells his mother about it, while Al Ghannam prepares a plan to arrest Kharabah and hands it over to the commandant.

Hassan marries Kamla and travels with her to Cairo, while Al Ghannam sends his men to kidnap Hassan to frame Kharabah, so Kharabah’s men kill them.

Kharabah leaves the leadership of the mountain to Saadia, who asks Halil to help her with this task, while Hassan joins Barbash and his friends and they begin defrauding the general public to collect donations in the name of the newspaper.

After Al Ghannam is assassinated, the police try to raid the mountain to arrest Kharabah, but they are confronted by Kharabah’s men, and Halil is arrested because of his close relationship with Kharabah.

Hassan marries Hennah, and Mandouha marries Abdul Rahman, while the commandant arrests Kharabah and shoots him.

Kharabah dies, and the commandant kills Hennah, after which Saadia takes revenge and kills the commandant. The government sets fire to most of the houses in the town, and Kharabah’s uncle, Jaafar, is arrested.

Hassan and Kamla move into an apartment downtown, while Jaafar manages to escape from prison.

Saadia gives up her inheritance to Bahana, Kharabah’s widow, and her two children. As Hassan discovers Al Ghazouli’s work with the police, he works with Wahdan in transporting narcotic substances. Hassan buys Al Ghannam's villa.

As Halil declares his love for Saadia, he asks Jaafar to marry her.

Hassan continues to work in transporting narcotic substances, while Saadia sets up a school and workshop in the mountain.

Egypt is defeated in its war against Israel in 1967, and the Egyptian people refuse to let President Gamal Abdel Nasser step down from power. Abdul Rahman dies in the war, and Kamla gives birth to four children with Hassan.

Sheikh Nour invites Saadia, who appears as Sheikha Saada, to attend the ceremony for his daughter Qout to receive her doctorate. The crowds collapse over the death of Gamal Abdel Nasser.

Hassan becomes one of the wealthy people of Cairo, and he agrees with Mohamed Shanaf to sell him antique statues, so Hassan travels with his brother Hazem to Asyut, and takes him to the mountain to receive the statue.

As Hassan enlists the help of Halil to sell antique statues, he convinces Mohamed that he is an intermediary and sells the statue to him. Saadia begins frequenting Sheikh Nour and his friends to read their fortunes.

As the youth of the mountain obtain their high school diplomas, Saadia and Halil cover their university entrance fees. Sheikh Nour agrees to Qout’s marriage to her classmate Ziad.

Hassan discovers that Sheikha Saada is his sister Saadia, who asks Hassan to run for elections in the council, so Hassan asks for the help of Barbash and his friends.

Hassan enters the council elections, and Barbash and his friends help him with his electoral campaign. Hassan continues to sell antique statues to Hazem and Mohamed Shanaf.

Hassan wins the elections and receives immunity, while Ghazouli and Hendi decide to use Hassan's car to transport narcotic drugs.

The people begin to suffer from a shortage of food supplies, and Hassan helps Shandawili and Barbash seize the lands by squatting.

Hassan seeks the help of Maghawri, who is wanted by the police for stealing the farmers’ lands, while Mandouha confesses to Hindiyah that Halil and Saadia love each other.

The Egyptian Army wins the Glorious October War. Halil marries Saadia, and statesmen begin to seek help from Saadia in fortune telling.

Basbousa discovers that Hazem is importing animal meat for a deal in the name of Hassan, and that he is selling it to them as meat fit for human use, so he blackmails him and takes the value of the deal from him.

Hassan opens his palace in Cairo, which contains all kinds of animals and birds. Hassan also begins working in real estate, and Al Ghazouli and Shandawili take over its management.

Hassan and his friends establish Al Safa and Al Marwa Foundation, which works in import and export, and Hassan meets with President Anwar Sadat and joins the National Party.

Mahmoud's son dies from drinking poisoned milk imported by Hassan's Al Safa and Al Marwa Foundation, and Saadia tells Halil to put Hassan at the top of the list of people to be eliminated.

Hassan and Barbash go abroad to establish branches of the Al Safa Foundation abroad. Halil falls ill in the mountain, so Youssef goes to look for him.

Halil separates from Saadia because of the murders and theft committed by the people of the mountain. Hassan discovers that Saadia has made a list to assassinate him and his associates of top businessmen.

Mandouha agrees to marry Basbousa, while Sadat asks Hassan to hand over Saadia to him, so Hassan goes to the mountain to meet her.

Hassan goes to meet Saadia in agreement with the police, and arrives there after an arduous journey, during which Saadia's men kill Hendi and three police officers.

Saadia releases Hassan after detaining him to send a message to Anwar Sadat that he will not be able to eliminate her and the jihadists. Mandouha marries Basbousa, and the government tortures Halil to have him tell them the location of Saadia.

Hassan's mother dies, and Halil is arrested on charges of leading the military wing of Saadia's soldiers.

The police try to arrest Saadia and she commits suicide. Hassan writes his memoirs, and he is killed by a lion in his villa.
