Aziza and her husband Abdullah are both day laborers who work on various farms. When Aziza is brutally raped by a guard while she is picking potatoes in a field, she tries to hide the pregnancy and kills the baby once it’s born.

Aziza is a poor peasant woman with a sick husband. They are both day laborers who work on various farms. Aziza is brutally raped by a guard while she is picking potatoes in a field. Burdened with the shame of an extramarital baby, she tries to hide the pregnancy and kills the baby once it’s born. She dies from a fever soon after, and the migrant workers of her village rally around her memory as she becomes a martyr of the peasants’ plight.
