Marianna collapses after the death of Gibran Khalil Gibran in New York in 1931. Years earlier, Kamila receives a letter stating that her husband died in Brazil, leaving a young son, whereupon the village chief tries to wed her to the accountant Habib, while Khalil tries to find a way to marry her.

2nd Episode

Rev. Estephan, Kamila’s father, tells her that Khalil wants to marry her, but she rejects him because of his constant drunkenness, whereupon the former mediates with Raji, the village chief, in order to release Melhem, who is accused of stealing water, and Raji asks for Kamila’s hand for Habib.

3rd Episode

When Kamila marries Habib, she discovers that he is impotent, so she asks him to seek treatment from Dr. Selim, who tells her that his condition has no cure. Khalil indulges in drinking out of grief over Kamila. Raji tries to proposition Kamila, who divorces Habib.

4th Episode

Khalil marries Kamila, who asks that her son, Boutros, live with them, to which he agrees. Raji imposes exorbitant taxes on the village. Kamila gives birth to Gibran. The reverend pays taxes for Melhem before he is expelled from his home. Kamila objects to Khalil's way of raising his children.

5th Episode

Abu Anton decides to rise up against the Ottoman forces and their oppression and calls the people of the village to revolt, whereupon he gets arrested. Raji gets angry as Estephanos helps Melhem. Gibran grows into a boy, while Khalil continues to drink, much to Kamila’s anger.

Kamila tries to open Khalil's shop, which Raji closed down owing to exorbitant taxes, and refuses to involve Khalil because he is negligent and a drunk, while rejecting Raji's advances. Gibran starts showing talent in painting and sculpture.

As the obscure American poet Barbara goes to Gibran at his home and asks to be his agent, he tells her about his childhood and his compassion for the poor, about Maroun and his struggle with the unjust priest Hanna, his expulsion from the church and defending himself in the face of Raji.

8th Episode

Maroun stands in solidarity with the poor against the taxes and the greedy Rev. Hanna, whereupon Rev. Estephanos stands up to Raji, who tried to kill Maroun. When Gibran falls off a rock and breaks his shoulder, Dr. Selim tries to treat and educate him.

9th Episode

A fortune-teller predicts that someone other than his Gibran’s father will take over his education and that he will be influential. Khalil asks for Raji’s help to enroll Gibran at the Collège de la Sagesse, but Raji refuses, while Gibran is pained by Raji and Khalil’s refusal to teach him.

10th Episode

As the tax money that Khalil collected for Raji gets stolen, Kamila turns to her father for help, and seeks sympathy from Raji, who propositions her. Khalil gets arrested, while Gibran stands up to Raji, defending his father and the poor.

Khalil denies responsibility for the theft and accuses the guard, whom Raji sent with him, after which he gets sentenced to 6 years in prison, in addition to the confiscation of the shop. Kamila insists that Gibran continues his education in the arts.

On her way to visit Khalil, Kamila is exposed to dangers and harassment. Dr. Selim teaches Gibran more arts and sciences and takes him to visit Rashid Bey, who has fallen ill after his wife cheated on him. Kamila tries to get Khalil out of prison.

Rev. Estephanos complains to the bishop about what happened to Khalil. Barbara relates how Gibran wrote his story ‘Warda’, in which he tells the story of Rashid Bey. Selim and Gibran go to visit Warda and discover that she is innocent and that Rashid owns her with his money.

Two years remain of Khalil's prison sentence, while Kamila’s attempts to get him released continue with Faris Effendi’s help. She thinks of emigrating after Khalil's release. Gibran becomes attached to his neighbor Hala, who thinks of him as a brother. Khalil is proven innocent and gets out of prison.

Kamila insists on emigrating despite the objection of Khalil, who stays behind to pay his debts. When she travels to the US with her children with the help of Boutros, who has been saving his allowance, Khalil indulges in drinking, as he misses his family.

As Faris learns that Kamila has traveled, he finds Khalil drunk in his shop. As Marianna recounts her difficult trip with her family and their arrival in Boston in 1895, they stay at Melhem’s. Gibran attends school, where his genius starts showing and he is mentored by the artist Holland Day.

As Holland continues to teach Gibran painting and photography, Kamila warns Gibran about him because he is eccentric. Gibran meets a woman who asks for his opinion on a portrait of hers painted by an artist, so he goes to her and she tells him that she’s suffering from her abusive husband.

18th Episode

Gibran succeeds in school, much to his family’s delight, whereupon he decides to return to Lebanon to study Arabic. Holland Day prepares for his exhibition. Gibran meets and falls for the poet Josephine and proposes to her, but she refuses.

19th Episode

As Gibran returns to Lebanon, he learns of his grandfather's death and writes to Kamila, who grieves deeply. He meets his mentor, Dr. Selim, who helps him get into the Collège de la Sagesse. Gibran's father tries to prevent him from pursuing art, but Selim encourages Gibran to continue on his path.

Gibran stays at the school dormitory and is taught Arabic by Father Youssef Haddad, who advises him to read Avicenna’s poems. Gibran calls for fighting feudalism and exploitation. He meets Marta, whom he finds out is the one who ran away with the guard and his father was imprisoned because of her.

Gibran makes a French friend and feels that the French are seeking to expel the Turks from Lebanon. Gibran falls for Sultana, his friend's sister, and paints her portrait, but her illness grieves him. Sultana's aunt objects to their relationship, while Sultana's condition deteriorates.

Gibran meets Faris in Beirut. Upon his graduation, Gibran decides to tour several countries before returning to America. He visits Alexandria, Athens, and Paris. When Gibran and Khalil find out from the newspapers that Sultana has died, they collapse, and Gibran returns to America.

Finale

Mary Haskell is jealous of May's correspondence with Gibran. A sick Boutros returns from Cuba, then dies, followed by Kamila. Holland Day and Josephine organize an exhibition for Gibran. May and her family emigrate to Egypt, where she becomes an influential writer. Gibran has cancer in 1931.
