Harby visits his uncle Ibrahim’s family and meets his orphan relative, Safiya. Harby's uncle, the consul Asran, gets sick but soon recovers. Ward tells Safiya that Harby loves the dancer Amouna. Amouna asks Harby to run away together to get married, but he refuses.

Asran visits the village and Ibrahim's home and feels sad because he has no children. Ibrahim decides to make Safiya marry whoever proposes to her after he learns that Harby doesn't have feelings for her. Problems occur at the farmers' lands, and Awad, Harby's friend, loses his crop.

Amouna's mother asks Harby to stay away from her daughter. Harby interferes to defend a farmer against the injustice of the mayor. Asran and Harby visit Ibrahim and Asran asks for Safiya's hand in marriage and Safiya accepts.

Safiya insists on marrying Asran and they go to Luxor for their honeymoon. Her family visits her to check up on her.

Safiya begins to interfere in the business affairs of Asran with Harby. Safiya is pregnant and Asran is thrilled. The mayor takes advantage of Amouna's night visit to Harby to create a wedge between Harby and Asran to have his land.

Safiya gives birth to a boy named Hassan. An anonymous calls Asran and warns him of a threat to Hassan from his relatives. Asran suspects Harby, and the mayor confirms his doubts. Asran kicks Harby out and prevents him from coming back.

Harby falls ill because of Asran's injustice to him. Asran hires guards to protect his house. Hosniya advises Safiya not to be blinded by her hatred for Harby.

Harby fails to make the mayor resolve his dispute with Asran, and he walks away from Amouna and the people. After the mayor delivers more false information about Harby, Asran decides to get rid of him. Asran sends his men to torture Harby.

Harby kills Asran in an attempt to defend himself and then escapes. Safiya vows revenge. Harby is taken to the hospital by the villagers and Amouna promises to stand by him.

The Mayor forces Amouna's family to leave town. The police are investigating Harby who confesses to the murder and is sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

Years pass and Safiya prepares Hassan for revenge against Harby. Ibrahim visits Harby in prison. Amouna and her family return to the town. Safiya takes over the management of her land.

Safiya is consumed by her desire to take revenge and refuses to believe that Harby is innocent. Safiya quarrels with Ibrahim and cuts ties with him. Safiya makes her men bring Amouna to her.

Safiya forces Amouna to leave town. Harby's aunt visits Safiya and cuts ties with her because of her insult to Harby. Fugitives start terrorizing the town. Harbi's health condition deteriorates and he is transferred to the hospital.

A health release of Harby is issued, and Ibrahim asks the men of the monastery to let Harby hide there to protect him from Safiya. Safiya discovers what happened and vows to kill Harby.

The mayor quarrels with Ibrahim over his protection to Harby. Hosniya visits Safiya who quarrels with her and expels her, Safiya expels her men after refusing to attack the monastery. Harby visits Faris, his former cellmate. Safiya agrees with Tawfik to bring her someone to kill Harby.

Awad fails to bring Amouna to Harby, and Awad gives him a weapon for emergency. Safiya learns about Harby's sickness and gives Ibrahim money for his treatment but he refuses it. Harby survives an attempted murder.

Harby's illness worsens as he begins to hallucinate and goes out to look for Amouna and dies. The town mourns his death and Safiya is devastated for failing to take revenge. She falls into a state of depression and becomes severely ill and begins to hallucinate and then dies.
