Abdul Kader was born Herbert Doperfield. He becomes a drunkard after he loses his brother in WW2. He travels to the Sudan to work and he takes up his job among quarry workers. The ministry decides not to demolish the shrine. Kamal is pleased.

Herbert is so desperate that he attempts suicide, but he is rescued by Fadl Allah, one of his workmates. The two men develop a friendship.

After Herbert wakes up from a coma, Fadl Allah advises him to quit drinking to stay healthy and safe. Kamal's son goes into his sister's room to find her dancing to music, and he beats her.

Herbert begs Fadl Allah to buy him liquor. Fadl Allah throws away the liquor, and fills the bottle with a juice that tastes the same. Abdul Kader still fights with people over the Khawaja's shrine.

Herbert converts to Islam, and takes the name Abdul Kader. On a different storyline, Kamal's son, Abdul Kader, is arrested for joining the Muslim brotherhood. Kamal returns to Egypt to find his son.
