In a building, a number of families face various problems. The owner, Sayed, is a kind man who lives with his only son. Aliaa is married to an unemployed abusive man who frightens their little son. The neighbors sympathize with Aliaa.

Donia meets Mariam's brother who falls for her. Ibrahim's wife tells their friend Alaa that she thinks Ibrahim is cheating on her. Aliaa pours Kamal's liquor down the drain and Kamal beats her severely. When Kamal's body is found, his mother accuses Aliaa of killing him.

Aliaa is arrested. Dalia tells Alaa about her husband's mistreatment of her. Donia plans to throw Dalia a surprise birthday party. Ibrahim gifts Dalia a necklace that he had gotten for his girlfriend. Ibrahim has a daughter with another woman.

Sayed Ali asks Ibrahim to tell Aliaa that he wants to marry her. Nour goes out with Sayed Ali's son. Donia starts a relationship with Mariam's brother. Aliaa and Sayed Ali agree to postpone their marriage.

Dalia learns that Mariam's brother is swindling rich girls. Donia discovers that Fahmy is Mariam's brother. Dalia sees Ibrahim with his girlfriend. Dalia learns of her husband's unregistered marriage to another woman and files for divorce.

Nour is saddened that her parents are getting a divorce. Fahmy is released and tries to convince Donia that he loves her. Aliaa tries to reconcile Dalia and Ibrahim. When Ibrahim's girlfriend is hit by a car and dies, Dalia takes her daughter in.

Nour and Sabry pass their exams. Ibrahim tries to get close to Dalia. Sayed Ali invites his sister to his wedding ceremony to Aliaa. Fahmy asks Ibrahim for Donia's hand in marriage.

Donia goes to live in Fahmy's house and they decide to get married. Dalia tries to convince Donia to come home. Sayed Ali's son takes out his mother's photos.

Donia learns that she is pregnant. Donia and Fahmy inform Dalia of their marriage. Sayed and Aliaa return to Tunisia. Dalia cares for Ibrahim's daughter.

Sabry doesn't enroll in college and starts getting radicalized by religious extremist sheikhs. Ibrahim learns that Donia was transferred to the hospital.

Sayed Ali tells Dalia that Donia is in critical condition. Donia learns that she has AIDS. Donia runs away from the hospital.

Donia kills herself. Fahmy and Dalia are left reeling from the news. Sabry grows his beard and tries to convince Nour to become more religious. Mariam gives Donia's stuff back to Dalia.

Sabry's extremism worries Aliaa and her son. As his father tries to reason with him, Sabry decides to break up with Nour because she refuses to wear a hijab. Mariam's boyfriend wants to marry her.

Mariam and her boyfriend break up. Sabry follows Nour to a nightclub and beats her. Sayed Ali beats his son when Dalia informs him of what Sabry has done. Sayed Ali's niece runs away from her home and goes to stay with her uncle because she likes Sabry.

Nour conducts an investigative report about poor people. Sayed Ali's niece Manal is recruited to work in a nightclub. Aliaa's gallery is a success. Nour and Sabry reconcile, as do Dalia and her husband.
