A British actress of Indian origin, born on October 5, 1975, in Leicester, Leicestershire, England. Her parents worked as Sikh factory workers who emigrated from the Punjab region of India. She attended the Northfield House Primary School in Leicester. She played the violin in the youth orchestra and also appeared in her first play at Soar Valley College. She is known for Bend It Like Beckham (2002), ER (2003-2009), The Blacklist (2013-2014), and Alcatraz (2012).
